MiniMOST is used to measure 'short' cycle activities, which is approximately 20 seconds or less in length. These activities are typically highly repetitive, feature very little variation and occur frequently. Workers typically have little walking or body movement such as bending if MiniMOST is used. Given the nature of these types of activities, MiniMOST produces a very detailed and precise work measurement analysis. Electronic assembly is its' most prevelant use.

MOST was developed by Kjell Zandin and H. B. Maynard and Company, Inc. in 1974. The MOST Work Measurement System originated from another predetermined motion time system called Methods Time Measurement (MTM). MOST does not require that tasks be broken down into the finite detail of MTM, focusing rather on grouping together the basic motions that frequently occur into predefined ‘sequence models’. Using these sequence models ensures a higher level of user consistency and accuracy. The MOST Work Measurement Technique was considered revolutionary because it allowed the user to measure work much more quickly than its’ predecessor MTM, while still maintaining a high level of accuracy.
